چکیده

In this paper we describe an adaptive, optimistic synchronisation mechanism for the parallel discrete event simulation of agent-based systems. The mechanism uses the Sphere of Influence (SoI) of an event (the region of the shared simulation state read or written to by the event) to define an adaptive metric which can be used with a throttling mechanism such as moving time windows. We show how such a metric can be calculated by monitoring the common reads and writes made by the agents to the shared simulation state modelling the agent’s environment, and present the results of our preliminary investigations into the relationships between agent read and write patterns and rollback frequency.

Adaptive optimistic simulation of multi-agent systems

Simulation is an important tool for designers of multi-agent systems allowing them to learn more about the behaviour of a system or to investigate the implications of alternative agent architectures. A key issue for agent simulation is that of scalability, as agents are themselves often complex systems (e.g., with sensing, planning, inference etc. capabilities), requiring considerable computati...

Adaptive Distributed Consensus Control for a Class of Heterogeneous and Uncertain Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems

This paper has been devoted to the design of a distributed consensus control for a class of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems in the strict-feedback form. The communication between the agents has been described by a directed graph. Radial-basis function neural networks have been used for the approximation of the uncertain and heterogeneous dynamics of the followers as well as the effect o...

Adaptive Neural Network Method for Consensus Tracking of High-Order Mimo Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems

This paper is concerned with the consensus tracking problem of high order MIMO nonlinear multi-agent systems. The agents must follow a leader node in presence of unknown dynamics and uncertain external disturbances. The communication network topology of agents is assumed to be a fixed undirected graph. A distributed adaptive control method is proposed to solve the consensus problem utilizing re...

Decision-Theoretic Throttling for Optimisitc Simulations of Multi-Agent Systems

In this paper we present a throttling mechanism for optimistic simulations of multi-agent systems, which delays read accesses to the shared simulation state that are likely to be rolled back. We develop a decisiontheoretic model of rollback and show how this can be used to derive the optimal time to delay a read event so as to minimise the expected overall execution time of the simulation. We b...

Time Windows in Multi-agent Distributed Simulation

In this paper we describe a method for optimistic parallel discrete event simulation for multi-agent systems. We present an adaptive metric that calculates the appropriate degree of optimism for an agent process based on the reads and writes made to the shared state by that agent. We conclude by showing how results from our investigations into the application of moving time windows in agent sim...
